Happy Diwali

As a drizzle wets the streets,
Fire crackers burst into obscurity-
Dispelling ancient jinn and curses,
The sky shines with a rainbow of wishes.

Innocent smiles and iridescent skies,
The echoing laughter and fountains of joy-
Spilling over the hard tar,
Defying fear, anger and heavy hearts.

Why cry about flintstone fires,
When branded chimneys don't care.
Street dogs scamper and the voices cheer-
As a smog settles, mythical heroes return.

Symphony of noises, protrude into the night,
Myriad colours fill the sky, till the first light.
From across the ocean, he shall arrive,
The prince who shall return to his right.

Everywhere around light and joy!
Together everyone rejoice!
The festival of light and hope,
Watch the rockets elope from the hold!

Happy Diwali!
